We have moved to our new church office located at 5517 S. Michigan.

Before our doors were opened or our first service was held, there was a cry in the spirit: a cry for the presence and power of God without regard to denomination; a cry for an authentic worship experience where intimacy with God prevails over ritual and religion; a cry for a church where the wounded could be made whole, where the hurting could be healed, where the lonely could be comforted, where the brokenhearted could be mended. There was a desperate cry to come closer, go deeper, reach higher.

Pastor John F. Hannah heard the cry and responded by establishing New Life Covenant Oakwood Church. The church began with weekly bible studies in September 2003 with a small group of committed members. Others heard the cry and the numbers grew. In March 2004, Sunday worship services were added. Still more heard the cry and responded. In October 2008, because of the rapid increase in membership, New Life Covenant Church moved to its current location at The Tabernacle located on 1021 E. 78th Street. God has been faithful. New Life is a loving church where its members are celebrated, not tolerated. It is a ministry of a second chance, where the past only serves as a reminder of how good God has been, and is never used to hold anyone back.

The ministry is committed to breaking down the walls of religion and denomination and endeavors to create a church that looks like heaven, where all of God’s children, of every race and color, worship together. Outreach to the poor is a cornerstone of New Life’s ministry. Each month, the church moves beyond the four walls of the sanctuary and enters the Grand Crossing, Oakwood and Bronzeville communities and ministers to the needs of the people. Previous outreaches have included: ice cream and hot dog giveaways, back-to-school festival, coat giveaway, bicycle giveaway, Easter basket giveaway, turkey giveaway, Extreme Home Makers and participation in the Angel Tree project. New Life Covenant Oakwood is a “daughter” church of New Life Covenant Church in the Humboldt Park community in Chicago, Illinois where Wilfredo De Jesus is the Senior Pastor. There are three other “daughter” churches, located in Harbor City, California; the Pilsen community of Chicago; and Peru! So, what next? The pain, the struggle of life….there has to be a better way, right? That emptiness you feel….that sense you have that there is “something more” to life…something to help you cope…something to help you overcome. That hole you have in your life can really be filled by only one thing. Jesus.
